Tools for Discernment / Decision Making

St. Ignatius focused much effort on reflecting and feeling the movement of the spirit. The following exercise assists in the decision making process.  This tool for discernment comes down to the movement of the spirit and also involves removing oneself from the situation to look at it independently and objectively.
For this exercise, consider a circumstance in your life for which you are discerning some action. Imagine being asked the following questions. Afterwards, be aware of how you are feeling (happy, sad, joy, anger, stress, peace, etc.). If it helps, journal afterwards.
The following questions were used for someone discerning a job change.
1.  Imagine that I came to you with the same situation and asked for advice. What would you advise me to do?
2.  Imagine you are at the end of your life. What do you wish you had done?
3.  Put on the new job, place yourself in the position. Wear it and see how it feels.
4.  Put on your existing position, place yourself in the position. Wear it and see how it feels.
5.  Are you running away from something or toward something?
6.  Where do you feel inner peace?
